When you hold a genuine antique pocket watch in the palm of your hand, you not only get a sense of its history, but also get to feel the solid heft thanks to the case material as well as the mechanical movement inside, and this antique Waltham pocket watch feels fantastic to hold and admire.
Made in a solid 14 carat yellow gold case made for Waltham by J. Depollier and Sons in 1918, the case measures 43mm across by 54.5mm to the top of the bow, and thanks to its slimline case, it will sit perfectly in the pocket as well as the palm of your hand.
The dial is all original and has achieved a lovely soft patina and displays both Roman numerals as well as the seconds at the bottom and is still very easy to read.
Opening the back reveals two wonderful features - firstly the fantastic 17 jewelled crown wind and set Waltham Ruby movement which has undergone a full service and comes with our twelve month warranty, and secondly the most amazing pierce worked movement holder which is just as beautiful as the movement. This type of case is called an "Opera watch" and was produced by Waltham for only a few years.
From inside and out, this is a wonderful antique pocket watch that will continue to look and feel perfect well into the future.

14 carat gold antique Waltham Opera Ruby pocket watch made in 1918
The Waltham Ruby movement was made from 1912 until 1919, and is a seventeen jewelled manual wind crown set movement with a Breguet hairspring. It is a size 6/02 which is equal to 25.40mm.
The case of this Waltham pocket watch was made by J.Depollier & Sons and is called a Waltham Opera watch due to the fact that is has a highly filigree spacer to hold the movement.
A brief history on the Waltham company:
The Waltham Watch Company was formed in 1850 under the name American Horologe Company. Over the years it went through a series of name changes such as the Boston Watch Company (1853) and American Watch Company (1859). In 1885 it became knows as the American Waltham Watch Company and finally in 1907 it became knows as the Waltham Watch Company (WWCo)
In addition to using grade numbers, Waltham also used many grade names on their watches. These names were often the names of Board members, company investors, or other prominent individuals. The grade name basically designates the model and/or level of finish of the watch. Some of the more popular Waltham named grades were: Appleton Tracy & Co., William Ellery, P. S. Bartlett, Crescent Street, Riverside, Central Park, Premier, Broadway, Royal E. Robbins, Vanguard, Bond Street, Sterling, Royal, Maximus and Colonial.
