Antique Shakudo earrings made in the 1870’s
Shakudo is an alloy of gold and copper of around 4 to 10% of gold and 90 to 96% copper, and was originally designed for fittings on swords such as the katana, and other pieces such as the kozuka (the grip of a small knife). When the samurai class grew obsolete, the shakudo masters turned their attention to jewellery, resulting in some truly fabulous pieces that have lasted well over 100 years and still look amazing such as these antique Shakudo earrings dating from the 1870’s.
Measuring 21.2mm in diameter by 28.8mm to the top of the hooks, the colour and subject matter in the earrings will make them perfect to wear with any outfit as well as for any time of the day or night.
With a charming scene of a bird set amongst flowers and leaves, the beautiful bronze coloured background allows for the rich golden accents to stand out even more, and not only will they be destined to be admired each time that they are worn, but they are also so comfortable to wear all the time.
These are such a wonderful and unique pair of antique earrings that will always be cherished.
