Antique silver bangle highlighted with rose gold, swallows & a crane

Antique jewellery often has so much more than just a design or pattern with it, rather quite often a "hidden" meaning to it all which adds to the romance of the piece, as can be seen here in this gorgeous antique bangle from the late Victorian era.

Dating from the 1890's, the bangle was made in sterling silver and highlighted so elegantly with rose gold. However it is not just the gold that makes this bangle so exciting, it is also the hand engraved swallows and crane that adds to the romance of the bangle.

Swallows were a very popular design in Victorian jewellery, as the swallows mate for life, they motif was often used by fishermen and sailors, among others, when they went off on a journey to protect them, and was used to keep them safe and offer them a safe return home. And while the crane was more commonly found in Asian art and jewellery, it found its way into Western jewellery especially during the romantic Victorian era. Used to represent eternal love, as well as a permanent bond of affection and an unbreakable circle of loyalty and love, the combination of the crane and swallow in this bangle really makes it such a wonderful conversation starter.

Measuring 19.8mm wide, being hinged will allow it to sit nice and close to the wrist, where it is comfortable enough to wear all the time, day or night and always look perfect with any outfit.

And then to add to the charm and romance of the bangle further, inside it is engraved with "J.M.A." which adds to the allure of either the wearer or giver of this bangle all those years ago.

This is such a charming antique bangle, and one that is as romantic as it is elegant.
