Rings made in the Retro era of the 1950's often have two main characteristics - large bold designs and made in rose gold, and here this wonderful ring right from this era displays both in a truly fabulous design that is sure to always get the attention that it rightly deserves.
Made in 18 carat rose gold and platinum, the colour of the rose gold looks fabulous on the hand and with such a large band, really showcases the colour so well.
Set with a marquise cut diamond that measures 0.50 carats in the centre, there are a further twelve more brilliant cut diamonds that come together to total 0.62 carats and highlight the wonderful angular design across the top.
Then to highlight not only the colour but the diamonds as well, there are four synthetic rubies set on each side that total 0.96 carat in weight.
When synthetic rubies and sapphires were first invented in the early part of the 1900's and started coming onto the market soon there after, they were embraced by jewellers and the public alike as for the jewellers they could now have access to evenly matched fancy cut stones and the public as these were all new and an exciting leap forward in technology at the time. They were commonly used during the Art Deco and Retro era's and in this ring they stand out so beautifully.
Measuring 25.7mm across by 15.3mm wide, this is such an incredible statement ring that will always get noticed from near or far.

Retro era ring of the 1950's made in rose gold and platinum
A brief history of Retro jewellery:
Retro describes jewellery produced between the later part of the 1930's to the 1950's, and also includes World War II. The styles and designs of the Art Deco jewellery still influenced designers in this era.
The retro movement was can be considered to be started by the head of Christie's jewellery department, Francois Curiel. He named the era for customers who requested jewellery with the Retro look. His realization of this era brought great popularity and prestige to retro jewellery, resulting in the increase in value and price to these designs. Retro jewellery can be easily characterised by large chunky somewhat over the top designs in not only brooches and bracelets but also rings. The use of rose gold was also quite common even in 18ct.
Large gem set brooches with a combination of such stones such as rubies and diamonds in a floral motif where not uncommon.
