Art Deco natural pearl necklace with tassel

Today pearls are cultured with a bead being inserted into the oyster to produce a pearl, so it is truly amazing to find natural pearls and even more amazing to see so many of them such as in this magnificent Art Deco natural pearl necklace with tassel.
Made in the Art Deco era of the 1920's, this necklace feels so incredibly light and tactile and measures an astonishing 94cm in length.
Looking closely, you can see the most incredible threading that would have taken hours and hours of painstaking work including drilling holes in each and everyone of the pearls.
And then there is the most delightful tassel at the bottom which is set under a cap of black onyx. The way this tassel moves and sways adds to the charm and romance of this fabulous natural pearl necklace.
There is always something so special about jewellery from the Art Deco period, and this Art Deco necklace is certainly one of those outstanding pieces that you come across from time to time.

Description

Art Deco natural pearl necklace with tassel.
Natural pearls are those that have been created with out having the oyster seeded by man and is the by-product of an irritant such as a grain of sand, entering the oyster. Over the months and years, the oyster will build up a layer of nacre over this irritant, resulting in a beautiful natural pearl being produced. It is estimated that between 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 10,000 oysters will produce a natural pearl.
