Antique boulder opal necklace made in the early 1900’s
Here is an exceptional antique boulder opal necklace that looks as beautiful today as when it was made. Boulder opals were first discovered in 1869 and have the very distinct and beautiful appearance of having their solid ironstone host material either set behind the opal or amazingly running through the opal as can be seen here in these one set into the necklace. Made in the early 1900's in 9 carat gold, the necklace is set with five boulder opals that lead down to the centre where there is a further boulder opal suspended from the bottom. The spectral colours are so beautiful to admire and showcase why boulder opals are so highly prized and desired, and day or night there is no doubt that it will always be admired. And it is not just the opals that are amazing as the setting itself is so beautiful to see. The elegant setting is so beautiful and adds so much charm and character to the necklace. Laid out from end to end, the necklace measures 43cm in length and from one end opal across to the other side, this distance measures 14.9cm with the drop itself measuring 4.5cm in length. Sitting perfectly on the neckline, this antique boulder opal necklace is one that is destined to always get the attention that it rightly deserves. Stock# ES9630 Circa: 1910 $6,200

Art Nouveau solid opal and natural pearl necklace made in the 1890’s
Here is a truly amazing antique necklace that was made during the Art Nouveau era in the late 1800's and has so many exciting and unique features to it that highlight why there is nothing quite like genuine antique jewellery. Made in 18 carat yellow gold, the design is so elegant especially around the opal and even the detail on the cap holding the suspended pearl at the bottom is exquisite to admire. In the centre is a lovely solid white Australian opal that measures 2.05 carats. With a lovely soft blue-green colour to it that compliments the pearls perfectly, it also highlights the gorgeous setting that surrounds it. And then on the chain leading to it there are three natural pearls on each side as well as three more around the opal then the amazing and large one at the bottom. Today pearls are produced by being cultured, and while these pearls are still considered to be real pearls, these ones have formed naturally as nature intended without being cultured like today and this is made even more amazing by the fact that it is estimated that a natural pearl is produced in between 1 in 5,000 to 1 in 10,000 oysters. The largest one measures 17.1mm by 9.5mm and like all the others has been x-rayed to confirm this making this such an exciting piece. Laid out from end to end the necklace measures 39cm and from the first pearl at one end across to the other, this distance measures 9.2cm and this necklace not only sits perfectly around the neck, but looks absolutely incredible - this is truly such an exciting and beautiful necklace to have around your neck. Over 120 years old and still as beautiful and elegant as when it was made, this is truly an exceptional piece like no other. Stock# ES9558 Circa: 1895 $14,500

Rare 15 carat gold and platinum ladies antique Albertina
Here is an incredible rare and impressive ladies Albertina that dates from the 1850's and is arguably one of the finest ones that could ever be found. Not only does it measure and incredible full length that originally would have been worn on the waist to hold a pocket watch at one end, but the detail of the links, the tassels and all the other components are truly sensational. Made in 15 carat rose and green gold, the smaller components are highlighted with platinum. Even though platinum was discovered in 1735, the only way that it could be used in jewellery was to be hammered or forged onto jewellery, and it wasn't until oxyhydrogen was invented in the mid-1800's that could then create a temperature high enough to melt platinum and use it in jewellery. Gold is alloyed with other metals that results in producing different colours. Rose gold is made by primarily adding copper to the gold when being alloyed resulting in the lovely warm tone to it, and today when green gold is made the green colour is more a soft green-yellow colour. However years ago cadmium was added resulting in a stronger colour. While never a strong green such as yellow or white gold, the tone of green in antique pieces has an incredible soft tone to it that looks wonderful here set against both the rose gold and pure white of the platinum. The foxtail links in the tassels are still in superb condition as are the two slide pieces all of which show such incredible detail. Even the four links connecting all of this together are truly amazing to admired from near or far, and this piece has such an incredible tactile feel to it that is so exciting to wear. Laid out from end to end it measures 40.7cm and if one chose to wear it as a necklace, it measures 38cm in length when the swivel is connected to the large bolt ring. Still in exceptional condition, this very piece is featured on page 48 of "How the watch was worn: A fashion for 500 years" by Genevieve Cummins making this an even more exciting piece of history. There is no doubt that anyone will be hard pressed to find a better quality piece such as this, and this is one is up there with the best of the best. Stock# ES9364 Circa: 1855 $14,200
