Here is a fantastic antique 18ct gold ring from the Georgian era of the early 1800's that has such a simple yet amazing design and one that looks so beautiful and regal on the finger. It's incredible to think that this ring is over 200 years old and still in amazing condition and one that will certainly be a conversation starter. In the centre is a smokey quartz that has been foil backed. This technique of foil backing, was where the jeweller took a stone either natural or man-made, and put a sliver of foil behind the closed setting. This would allow for the foil to reflect through the stone to help enhance the sparkle of the stone. Typical of the Georgian period this style of jewellery is so sought after. Quartz of which smokey quartz, amethyst, citrine and rock crystal all come from, is considered the level for a gemstone that is durable enough to be worn all the time. With a hardness of 7 on the Moh's scale of hardness, anything below this is considered soft, and anything above much more durable. This is why rock crystal for example was often used for seals and intaglios during this time. The stone itself measures 11.3mm across by 9.1mm and is sitting atop a lovely band with the remnants of very beautiful hand engraving. This is a lovely genuine antique ring from the Georgian era, and one that will always be admired for its design as well as longevity. Stock# ES8054 Circa: 1800 $Sold.
The colour from these natural rubies, the sparkle from the diamonds and the incredible hand carded sides in this antique ruby and diamond ring all come together to create a magnificent ring that will always be loved and admired. Hand made in the late Victorian era of the 1890's, this ring is set with three vibrant natural Burmese rubies, and separated by two diamonds on each side of the centre ruby. The centre ruby measures 1 carat and the two side rubies total 0.70 carats and the colour and transparency of these rubies shows why Burmese rubies have long been regarded as the finest in the world. So many rubies today are quite cloudy inside or have been glass or lead filled which is an incredibly unstable treatment, so finding rubies of this quality is always lovely to see and admire. The four diamonds total 0.16 carats and add the right amount of sparkle and elegance to the ring, and from left to right the ring measures 18mm by 6.4mm wide at the centre. And when you look at the side of the ring you will be astounded at the fine scroll work on the side that shows just how well this ring was made over 120 years ago. This antique ruby and diamond ring will suit a multitude of occasions from a ruby anniversary to an engagement and everything in between and no matter the occasion, is destined to always be loved and admired. Here is an exquisite antique ruby and diamond ring that is not only set with three superb quality natural Burmese rubies, but also has not two but a total twelve diamonds set amongst the most beautiful scroll work sides. Dating from the 1890's, this ruby and diamond ring is typical of the style and elegance of the late Victorian era and will suit any finger and occasion and always look so refined on the finger. In the centre is a gorgeous fiery Burmese ruby that measures 0.72 carats and a further ruby on each side that is again Burmese in origin and are all perfectly matched in colour and transparency. These two rubies total 0.62 carats and the quality of these rubies show why for centuries Burmese rubies have long been regarded as the best of the best. Then on each side of the centre ruby is an old European cut diamond to add to the sparkle of this ring. This cut of diamond has 58 facets like today's modern round brilliant cut diamond, but as they were cut by hand and didn't know as much about how light reflects in a diamond, they have different angles than that of a modern diamond. And then looking closely will show a total of ten rose cut diamonds set between the rubies and the larger diamonds. These additional rose cut diamonds total 0.05 carats and from one end across to the other, this distance measures 21.5mm across by 6.4mm wide at the centre. Then looking at the diamond on the side you will see the most incredible and highly detailed hand carved scroll work that will captivate you every time that you see it and shows the quality of craftsmanship that went into hand making this ring over 100 years ago. Perfect for an engagement ring, anniversary or simply to wear for any occasion, this antique ruby and diamond ring is just divine. Stock# ES6263b Circa: 1890 $Sold
