Antique onyx drop earrings dating from the Victorian era
$2,350.00
These earrings date from the late Victorian period of the 1890’s and look absolutely amazing on the ear thanks to their design as well as the onyx having its naturally occurring white band running through the stone.
Onyx is a natural material from the same family as agate and chalcedony, and occurs naturally as dense black material often with a white “streak” running through the stone. Often this white band is either cut away and not used, or more commonly today the onyx is dyed a complete black, therefore removing with white part. However when the white left in place and, it highlights the beauty of the stone resulting in some wonderful designs such as in these earrings.
Set in 18 carat yellow gold, each earring is set with two round pieces and one long elegant tear shaped piece at the bottom, all displaying their wonderful white band that adds to the elegance so well.
Fitted with shepherd hooks, each earring measures 13.3mm wide at the widest part of the bottom piece by 50.8mm to the very top of the hooks, making these stand out so elegantly when on the ear.
Destined to complete any outfit, these antique earrings are as stunning today as when they were made over 130 years ago.
