Antique ruby and diamond ring made in 1904

This antique ruby and diamond ring was made in Chester in the Edwardian era in 1904, and has such a unique design that will surprise so many when they discover that it is well over 100 years old, yet still looks as beautiful and fashionable today as when it was made.

Made in 18 carat yellow gold, across the centre are three beautiful natural rubies that total 0.38 carats and are all so well matched in colour and suit the yellow gold so well. Highlighted by two single cut diamonds that total 0.06 carats, these diamonds add the right amount of sparkle to the ring and capture the light so well.

With such an elegant design on the top that leads to a beautiful scroll work design on each side, the top of the ring measures 7.6mm wide and sits so well on the finger.

This ring will so easily suit being worn on any finger and regardless of which finger it is worn on, there is little doubt that it will continue to always be admired for its elegant design and beauty.

Description

Antique ruby and diamond ring made in 1904

1904 ruby and diamond ring

This antique ruby and diamond ring dates from the Edwardian era. Made in 18 carat yellow gold in 1904, it is set with three natural rubies and two single cut diamonds.

What are single cut diamonds?

These are small diamonds usually around 0.01 carats to 0.05 carats in size. These are often found on the shoulders of rings or surrounding a centre stone for example. While today modern technology will allow for a 0.01 carat diamond to have 58 facets and be a round brilliant cut diamond, single cut diamonds were used from the later part of the 19th Century up until around the 1930’s-1940’s. Commonly found with eight facets on the top (the crown) and eight facets on the bottom (the pavilion) these are sometimes found with total facets between 16 to 18.
