Antique silver vesta case
Vesta cases were originally used to keep matches dry and to strike them alight on the base and were widely used from the 1830’s to the early 20th Century and here we have a charming antique silver vesta case that was made in France during the Art Nouveau period.
The French truly embraced the Art Nouveau era and the style was often influenced by nature as can be seen here on this antique vesta case dating from the 1890’s.
Made in silver it measures 45.5mm by 31.7mm by 11.1mm thick and the hinge is in wonderful condition as is the striker at the base.
So typical of the Art Nouveau movement that was going on at the time, this French Art Nouveau vesta case is just wonderful.
