Elegant Art Deco sapphire and diamond ring made in the 1920’s

$16,500.00

The design of this ring is just perfect to sit and accentuate the finger, and would make a stunning ring no matter which finger it is worn on, including making a wonderful engagement ring.

Hand made in 18 carat yellow gold and platinum in the 1920’s Art Deco era, in the centre sits a gorgeous emerald cut natural sapphire that measures 3.65 carats in weight. The elongated length of this sapphire, truly makes it stand out from near or far, and then surrounding the sapphire are sixteen European cut diamonds that come together to total 1.12 carats. The way the setting of diamonds mimics the shape of the sapphire with its corners cut, helps to further showcase the beauty and elegance of hand made jewellery from this wonderful era.

The top of the ring measures 12.9mm across by 18.1mm, which will certainly make this ring get admired from near or far.

Sitting on an elegant and smooth yellow gold band, this is a superb example of the elegance and grace of the decadent Art Deco era.

Where to buy antique engagement rings in Sydney?

What is a European cut diamond?

During the mid 19th century, the old European cut came into focus, and was an attempt to change the old mine cut stones into a more perfect round cut. These stones can be considered as the first true round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets from the old miners were kept in their same position, but changed shape to a more round and evenly shaped stone.

The culets became smaller, as it was realised that light could leak out from this point in the stone. The development of the modern brilliant cut occurred in the early part of the 20thcentury with further modifications through the century. Diamond cutters apply the brilliant cut to other shapes, and this very exacting skill continues to enthrall craftsman and enthusiasts alike.
