Antique Tiffany & Co diamond star burst brooch/pendant

Here is an antique diamond star burst brooch and pendant that is of unparalleled beauty and quality.

Exquisitely handmade in 18 carat yellow gold in the late 19th Century by Tiffany & Co, there are so many features of this pendant/brooch that takes it to a whole new level of quality.

To begin with, the “rays” are not just straight and flat, but rather have this wonderful sculptured design to them, that combined with the quality of the setting, makes it so smooth and tactile to feel.

And like many brooch/pendants of this era, there is a detachable bail at the top, and detachable brooch fitting on the back, so when it is worn as a pendant, with the brooch fitting removed, it will allow it to sit flat against the chest, and when the brooch fitting is put back on, the top bail can be removed to again not hinder how it is worn.

However the quality and craftsmanship of these two pieces is what elevates it to a whole new level. To begin with the bail, it has the most incredible hinge that softly opens and clicks back into place, as well as having a discreet pin to sit into. Then the brooch fitting has a guide pin to make certain that it goes on straight, and unlike any that we have ever seen in forty years of dealing in antiques, the inside thread is lined with platinum to prevent the thread from wearing out.

The level of quality in these two small pieces alone is just astonishing and even more so when you consider that all of this including the brooch itself was entirely handmade over 130 years ago.

Then of course there are the diamonds. And what magnificent high quality antique cut diamonds they are. In the centre sits a 0.60 carat European cut diamond, that even its setting and claws show that this could only have been made by a jeweller of the highest standing.

Then the 16 “rays” are set with a total of eighty more European cut diamonds that total 3.20 carats, and of course even the bail is set with a further three European cut diamonds that total 0.12 carats, bringing the total diamond weight in this magnificent piece to 3.92 carats.

Measuring 3.9cm in diameter or 4.6cm with the bail attached, this is a truly exceptional piece of jewellery that is like no other.
