Square ruby and diamond Art Deco ring

The Art Deco era of the 1920's has remained so popular in jewellery, and this Art Deco ruby and diamond ring certainly shows why.

From the gorgeous design that sits so well on the finger, there is no doubt that this ring will always be loved, cherished and admired.

Hand made in 18 carat yellow gold and platinum in the 1920's, the ring is set with four European cut diamonds that total 0.76 carats and one in the centre that measures 0.30 carats.

Highlighted with those four vibrant rubies that total 0.08 carats, both the diamonds and rubies have a millgrain finish to them which can be seen as the very elegant crimping along the edge of the setting that adds to the charm of this ring even more.

Measuring 13mm across by 12.2mm, this is a truly spectacular ring that will always be loved.

Description

Square ruby and diamond Art Deco ring

Square ruby and diamond Art Deco ring that was hand made in 18 carat yellow gold and platinum in the 1920's. This Art Deco ring is set with natural rubies and European cut diamonds.

What is a European cut diamond?

During the mid 19th century, the old European cut came into focus, and was an attempt to change the old mine cut stones into a more perfect round cut. These stones can be considered as the first true round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets from the old miners were kept in their same position, but changed shape to a more round and evenly shaped stone.

The culets became smaller, as it was realised that light could leak out from this point in the stone. The development of the modern brilliant cut occurred in the early part of the 20thcentury with further modifications through the century. Diamond cutters apply the brilliant cut to other shapes, and this very exacting skill continues to enthrall craftsman and enthusiasts alike.

When was the Art Deco era?

Broadly speaking the Art Deco era was from 1920 until 1940. There will be some people and publications that may state that it started after World War I in 1918, and lasted until 1950, but as there was no reigning monarch to dictate an actual start-finish time such as the Victorian era, the general concusses is from the 1920's through to the 1940's.
