Antique Victorian era engagement ring with fleur-de-lis design

Here is such an elegant antique diamond engagement ring that highlights the beauty and uniqueness of buying a genuine antique ring.

Hand made in 18 carat yellow gold in the late Victorian period of the 1890's, in the ring are five European cut diamonds that total 1.20 carats and to add to the elegant sparkle of the ring, there are two single cut diamonds set between each diamond that add an additional 0.08 carats of weight to the ring. There is something so special about antique cut diamonds that have all been cut by hand over a century ago, and they give the ring so much more passion to the ring.

And then admiring the ring from the side will take your breath away. With not only a stunning design, it is actually designed as a series of fleur-de-lis designs that adds so much more charm and character to the ring.

Measuring 19.1mm wide at the centre by 53mm across, this is a truly spectacular example of an antique engagement ring that was made over 120 years ago and is still as breathtaking today as when it was made.

What is a European cut diamond?

During the mid 19th century, the old European cut came into focus, and was an attempt to change the old mine cut stones into a more perfect round cut. These stones can be considered as the first true round brilliant cut diamonds. The facets from the old miners were kept in their same position, but changed shape to a more round and evenly shaped stone.

The culets became smaller, as it was realised that light could leak out from this point in the stone. The development of the modern brilliant cut occurred in the early part of the 20thcentury with further modifications through the century. Diamond cutters apply the brilliant cut to other shapes, and this very exacting skill continues to enthrall craftsman and enthusiasts alike.
